Russell Drever

28-29th August at the Moonambel Pavilion

On the weekend of the 28th and 29th August, the public are invited to view the work of Moonambel artist Mr Russell Drever at the Moonambel pavilion, another, 'Yours for the Artsing', Moonambel Arts & History Group event.  This will be Russell's tenth solo exhibition since 1971.

Russell is a well respected artist who has held solo exhibitions in important galleries from Melbourne to Paris to Regional Victoria. After leaving RMIT in 1965, Russell lived in London for three years where he worked and painted.  He also travelled widely in Europe.  When Russell returned to Australia he decided he wanted to live in Central Victoria and in 1972 left Melbourne permanently.

Russell moved to Moonambel in 2000, he love the space and colors of the area.  He regards it as a privilege to be able to live in such a beautiful location.  At our August exhibition we will see paintings Russell has completed in the last three years.
The works to be shown are paintings on cotton canvas using acrylic, oil and some auto-laquer.

Russell's art is based on feeling, emotion, instinct and imagination.  The dense, rich color of his works is influenced by the light and colour in the landscape.  His paintings are based on the local landscape.  Russell explains, "I intend no message, but would prefer the colour and form to act directly upon the viewer's emotions."

MAHG is thrilled Russelll accepted the invitation to share his work. Contanct Jan Curtis 5467 2353 for further information;or janandray@activ8.net.au

Opening of the Moonambel Pavilion

The Official Opening of the Moonambel Pavilion took place on 31 July 2009. This initiative was made possible by the hard work (and cash) from the Moonambel Community and substantial financial input from the Pyrenees Shire, the Victorian and Federal Governments. The Hon Joe Helper formally opened the Pavilion ..... (with some assistance from our oldest resident, Keith Farnsworth!!) view some of the images from this event here.
